My Path Into The Industry?

I was interested in beauty from a young age, having a mother that specialises in this area, I was taught the basic skills and techniques on how to look after my skin, hair, nails and overall appearance.

At the age of 16, I went to work in The Body Shop part time. I stayed for 4 years and received training in their various ranges which included skin care, make up, and nail care. This gave me an incite into the different products; ingredients and how they can benefit the skin.

At the same time I was able to concentrate on the arts at college were I learnt stage make-up. Learning how special fx are created in TV and films, brought out my creative side.

In 2003 my cousin announcement he was getting married in Barbados, I wanted to look my best. I visited a salon to get my hair and nails done. which was my 1st introduction to the nail industry. When it came to my fortnightly maintenance appointment, I would bring in nail designs for my technician to create on me; I was hooked! I thought this is the industry for me, I love art, so why not use a different sort of canvas, NAILS!

Once I received my training a whole new world opened up and I was able to see all the fabulous work that can be created.

The Hair, Nail and Beauty Trail Forum

The Hair, Nail and Beauty Trail is a forum dedicated to answering questions from existing people within the industry or the public on anything to do with hair, nails and beauty. As one of the moderator, my job is to help make sure the site runs smoothly.

Voluntary Work

I am the coordinator for The health and beauty section of Kaleidoscope Festival, which is our local annual festival, celebrating cultural diversity in Welwyn Hatfield. This gives the local community a chance to experience heath and beauty techniques and remedies from around the world.

The festival is in its 6th year running and I have been able to see it grow from strength to strength, watching the community come together for a fantastic day.

I enjoy helping my community in whatever way possible; by volunteering with Katfest I get to have fun whilst doing it. If you'd like to check out the fun filled day, go to www.kalfest.org.uk
